    The GBR source has a SAWYER entry on p. 879 which indicates that Thomas was born, reared and educated at Mason's Island. In the 1840s, Thomas moved from Mason's Island to Noank, where he made his home until his death. He was a leading member of Fort Hill Baptist Church and was one of the organizers of that religious body in Groton. His life was one of usefulness and he enjoyed the fullest measure of esteem in his community.
