Father: James SAWYER (1738-1782)
Mother: Elizabeth BRADNER (1740?-1802)
Spouse: Hannah WOOD (1771-1830)
Children:
We're not sure where Benjamin was born. His 3rd child (James) was born at Carpenter's Point, NY (near today's Port Jervis, NY).
Benjamin married Hannah WOOD in 7 Jun 1789. She was a daughter of Major John WOOD of Revolutionary War fame. Benjamin and Hannah resided at Carpenter's Point, now Port Jervis, NY on the Delaware River. They conducted the hospitable inn and conveyed the travelling public across the Delaware River by means of a ferry. According to Charles SAWYER, our ancestors were loggers on this river.
One of the OCGS papers indicates Benjamin and Hannah were married 7 Jun 1789 at Goshen, NY. The exact birth and death dates also came from that source.
Elaine MASON found the following references to a Benjamin SAWYER (likely the one of this page) in the Orange County Genealogical Society (OGCS) newsletter, Vol. 4, 1974, pg. 12, House Assessment Roll 1798, Town of Minisink, Orange Co., NY: No. 25, Owner Benjamin CARPENTER, adjoining property Benjamin SAWYER; No. 91, Owner Benjamin SAWYER, adjoining property Mgt. (Margaret?) HALSTEAD.
Elaine also found a reference to the marriage of Benjamin and Hannah (with exact date) in Vol. 9, 1979, pg. 23: Presbyterian Church Records of Goshen, NY by Charles C. Coleman, marriages: June 7, 1789, Benjamin SAWYER and Hannah WOOD.
