  • Richard and Mary were m. 26 Jan 1628/9 at Roydon, Essex, England. Mary was chr. 10 Nov 1605 at Roydon and bur. 24 Mar 1675/6 at Milford. Of Mary, the PLATT GEDCOM refers to Docs. 4; 3; 1, p. 73; 2, p. 547. Bapt. and Marriage: Doc. 6. Pioneer Settler of Milford, 1639. Of Richard, the GEDCOM says: CP#1, Docs. 3, 4, CP, p. 73, SWA, p. 547, Bapt. Doc. 5, Marriage: Doc. 6, First Planter, Milford, 1639, Pioneer PLATT settler in America, Lot #38. Richard was the first of this PLATT line to come to America.

Oliver Popenoe of the NYORANGE rootsweb group submitted the following:

According to Samuel Putnam Avery, The Warren, Little, Lathrop...etc families, 1925, Richard PLATT came to New Haven in 1638. Two sons, Isaac and Epenetus moved to Huntington, L.I. Isaac, m2, ca 1660 Elizabeth WOOD, dau of Jonas WOOD of Huntington (Jonas WOOD and several other families had earlier come from Stamford, CT to found Huntington, then a part of CT). They had 9 children. Epenetus m 1667 Phebe WOOD, dau of Jonas WOOD. They had 9 children. The Platts intermarried with the WOOD, ROGERS, WHITMAN, SAMMIS and other Huntington families who moved up to Goshen (now Warwick) in the early 1700s, joining other families from Stamford with whom I assume they had prior and continuing associations. One of my relatives was Ananias ROGERS from Huntington; a son and uncle were named PLATT, resulting from an earlier marriage in Huntington. There may have been one or more PLATTs who came up with this crowd, though I don't see them in the records. The 1790 Census shows no PLATTs in Orange County. You may want to look at some of the Long Island records, particularly Huntington, in your search.

On the PBS show 'Finding Your Roots' hosted by Henry Louis GATES Jr for Tu 14 Oct 2014, Boston native, actor and producer Ben [Geza] AFFLECK[-BOLDT b1972] was was 1 of 3 guests. It was noted that he is a 10th cousin, once removed to his good friend and fellow Bostonian actor Matt DAMON via their shared ancestor Wm KNOWLTON Jr. But, most interesting to this line is Ben's connection to this Richard PLATT b1604 at Ware, England (when Shakespeare was still alive i.e. 1564-1616!). As the chart below shows, JCS' gkids are 12 generations from a common ancestor w/Ben and thus 11th cousins (I'm a 10th cousin, once removed, and JCS is a 9th cousin, twice removed).
