Father: Major James SAWYER
Mother: Elizabeth BRADNER (1740?-1802)
Spouse: Eleanor HOLLY (1773-1826/8)
Children (order not sure):
Moses is listed in DAR records 41607, 45454, 43671, 43672, 56782, 57991, 86827, 89100. All of these records show him as having married Eleanor HOLLY. Eleanor was b. 25 Jan 1773 d. 2 Apr 1829.
Curiously, DAR ID 51543 indicates Moses married Fannie Antoinette HAND, and that Moses and Fannie had a daughter Helen Louise, who married James Monroe LYFORD. James and Helen had a daughter Mrs. Maria L. Lyford DANIELL, who is DAR ID Number 51543. Maria was born in Waverly, NY (1820s?) and was the wife of Horatio Nelson DANIELL. For now, the above information reflects the majority choice of HOLLY as Moses' wife.
The GFHCNY source states: "Moses, son of Major James SAWYER, was born in 1765 in Orange County, NY, died 6 Jan 1821. He married Eleanor HOLLY, b. 25 Jan 1773 d. 2 Apr 1828, granddaughter of Judge John HOLLY, of Stamford, CT. Children born near Goshen.
Fellow researcher Jeannie (from the NYORANGE rootsweb list) submitted some information about an Ebenezer HOLLY. From the document "Proceedings to determine boundaries of the Wawayanda and Cheesecocks Patents", Independent Republican Printing Company, Goshen NY 1915, p. 17: Ebenezer HOLLY, of Wawayanda, age 87 (in 1785), "came here with his father in April 1715." Therefore, Ebenezer was born approximately 1698. Unfortunately, his father's name is not stated, and it doesn't say WHERE they came from. Not sure if Moses' wife Eleanor is related to Ebenezer.
Elaine MASON found a reference to the marriage of Hannah SAWYER and William THOMAS in the OCGS newsletter, Vol. 7, 1978, pg. 29: Married by Gabriel CONKLIN, pastor of Brookfield (now Slate Hill, NY) Old School Baptist Church, 24 Jan 1833, William THOMAS of Chester to Hannah SAWYER.
Elaine also found a reference to the marriage of Elizabeth SAWYER and George Hamilton JACKSON in Vol. 10, pg. 24, Marriage, George Hamilton JACKSON and Elizabeth SAWYER 25 Feb 1809.
