Caleb Brokaw, born and raised in Somerset County, NJ, married his fourth cousin, a daughter of Isaac Brokaw (41-8), around 1768. Caleb was a farmer and a mason and lived in Weston, NJ in his later years. He served in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Capt. Peter Dumont Vroom's Co., 2nd Regiment of Somerset Co. Militia. In 1780 he received $139 for depreciation of his Continental pay. He was in Piscataway Twp., NJ in 1793 and in Hillsborough Twp. in 1802.
Caleb died in Weston and Jane in Manville and both are buried in an old family cemetery in Hillsboro (later Mansville). This site was, in 1964, covered by a suburban housing development. On his headstone reads:
