Ybe was baptized 20 Jan 1736 in Tjerkwerd. He was married 6 Dec 1761 at age 25. He was married to Tjetske Jans, who was the widow of Douwe Eeltzes. They both made profession of faith 30 Mar 1763. Ybe was a "huisman", which meant that he was a farmer without land and possessions (possibly renting?). He lived in Terkwerd. He became a deacon in his church. On 27 May 1787 he became an elder of his church, and again 29 May 1793. He was a curator for minor children (head of an orphanage?).

In May 1787 the armed group gathered at Franeker, incl. many prchrs, w/K of Prussia (name?) acting as mediator; results short-lived -> Rev of 1795 'liberte equal bro-hood' ...
