  • Wietske was known as 'Tante Wiets' by her family in Port Alberni, BC. She was born, raised and trained as a nurse in the Netherlands. She came to Canada in 1955, initially working as a nurse in a hospital in Selkirk, Manitoba. 2 years later she moved to California where she worked for 17 years. While there she met and married Jack DeKONING in the Los Angles area. In 1975 they retired and moved to Port Alberni, BC. After Jack died in May 2003, Wiets moved out of their longtime apartment at 4422 Roger St (Apt 2) and into Abbeyfield, a senior living facility on Redford St. The article shown below shows her there in July 2005. She died 10 Feb 2011 and was buried near Jack at Port Alberni cemetery (get pic).
