  • Sjouke was baptized in Oosthem 9 Jul 1865. He married Trijntje Nauta on 21 May 1892 in Sneek (county Wymbritseradeel). She was born 20 Jun 1862 in Heeg. On 17 Apr 1889 shortly before they married, Sjouke and Trijntje made confession of faith in the presence of elders and deacons of the "gereformeerde kerk" (Calvinistic Church) in Heeg and on Good Friday 19 Apr 1889 they were confirmed as members of the church by Dr. L. Wagenaar at Heeg. On 30 May 1892 Sjouke and Trijntje moved with letter of transfer to the Calvinistic Church of Oosthem and surroundings.

Until 12 Nov 1895 Sjouke was a laborer in Oosthem. On 20 Nov 1895 they moved with letter of transfer to Heeg. In 1899 Sjouke was a carrier there. On 12 May 1908 the family moved away from Heeg to Oosthem again. Sjouke was a small dairy farmer at that time. Assisted by his older brother Jan, he kept the family farm on the Hemdijk going.

Sjouke's oldest son Lolke at the age of 16 left Heeg for Andijk on 22 Jun 1912. He later became a market gardener there. Sjouke and Trijntje later settled in Andijk on 3 May 1927, after they had sold their Oosthem farm and all that went with it to Klaas vander ZEE and Johantje DIJKSTRA.

Sjouke's son Uilke and his wife and young son Sjouke also moved to Andijk on 12 May 1928. Uilke became a dairy farmer there.

Around 1930 Sjouke became caretaker of the Dr. A(braham) Kuyper school in Andijk. Due to the economic crisis practically all wages were cut. Sjouke did not object to this because he realized the reasonability and necessity of the wage cuts.

Trijntje died 17 Jan 1936 in Andijk after a prolonged illness. Stricken with grief, shortly after that Sjouke quit his job as caretaker and went for some time to relatives in Friesland. Later on he went back to Andijk and spent the last year of his life living with his son Lolke and his daughter-in-law Grietje. Sjouke died 17 Mar 1938 and was buried 21 Mar in Andijk.
