The earliest member of this family is Johannes Frantz NEHRBAS b. [town? land?] Germany (a geni page shows b. Neth.), d. 1775 Sussex, NJ. NEHRBAS is a German nickname for a gourmand or a greedy person, lit. 'feed myself better' from Middle High German ner(e)n 'to feed' or 'support'. John CUDDEBACK writes in FT (Nov 2018) on Reclaiming the Household. He's prof. and chrmn of phil. at Christendom College (in FL, right? funded by Domino's Pizza guy name?, right? [frmrly of Vi]).

Fellow NEARPASS researcher (and cousin) Tom HULSE (HEIRHUNTR@aol.com) found the website for the Minisink Valley Historical Society. One of the links there leads to a list of grave-markers at the Machackemack Cemetary, including a number of NEARPASS entries, as shown below. Tom indicated that W. H. NEARPASS helped the DAR compile some of this cemetary.
