  • Mary Alice, called Alice, was born July 11, 1854 in Waupun, WI. She attended Oshkosh Normal School before her marriage. On December 25, 1877 she married Charles BAILEY at her farm home. Alice and Charles spent their entire married life in Kansas, where they were prosperous farmers. It was a great shock to the surrounding countryside when he succumbed to an attack of pneumonia. She returned to Waupun to make her home. She built a pleasant dwelling and it too was a hospitable home. Her sister Libbie lived with her and they had a good life together. They with their brothers took a turn in caring for their invalid father. They did much for their nieces and nephews. We all (Ruth SAWYER, author of source, speaking) loved them dearly. Alice was a fine Christian. She was very active in the Methodist Church, Sunday School, missionary societies and everywhere there was a need. For years she had a weekly cottage prayer meeting in her home. Her loving nature included taking in a foster daughter, Mae. Mary Alice died April 23, 1938 in Waupun.
