Jens was a magistrate (Magister) and first Rector of Ysted and Ribe besides the parish priest at Ribe Cathedral. He died of pestilence (Pest) on the 14th or 15th of August 1565 and was buried at the Ribe Cathedral. His epitaph notes he was "a scholarly, God-fearing, loyal and careful man with extraordinary influence on his environment." He married Anne JENSDATTER, who d. 1581.
